Biomass

Our plants operate under a 100% renewable energy matrix deriving from biomass. The origination of this input is strategic and, since the beginning of our operations, we have been striving to find innovations that diversify our sources of energy. Eucalyptus chips are one of the main sources we use.

We work in partnership with local producers in Mato Grosso, through a Development Program aimed at expanding planted forest areas. We have already promoted nearly 8,000 hectares in the State of Mato Grosso. We also signed a partnership with Lacan, an investment fund specialized in the forestry sector, to develop forest areas close to our industrial units. Until July 2021, we had already planted nearly 5,000 hectares.

Another one of our action fronts is on research related to bamboo as a possible source of biomass. We planted bamboo during the last harvest season, in a total area of 5,000 hectares. We also advanced in the use of alternative biomass for industrial processes. We have already successfully used cotton stalks, rice shells, sugarcane pulp, sawmill residue, açaí seeds, sawdust, and bamboo itself as sources of energy.
