The Executive Board is responsible for managing FS’ business and implementing its general policies and guidelines.

The following is a summary of the business experience of our Executive Officers and members of the Board:

Rafael Abud (Executive Director). Rafael Abud has been working in the renewable energy sector for over 15 years. Currently, he works as FS’s CEO and has been working in the company since its foundation, leading all development stages – from startup to expansion – to become one of the largest ethanol companies in Brazil. Previously, Rafael was responsible for the development and management of all enterprises under Summit Agricultural Group management in Brazil, mainly those related to the operation of holdings in agricultural and renewable energy properties. Before joining the Summit and FS, Rafael founded JETBIO and BioVentures Brasil, where he headed projects in biodiesel production and processing technology, energy generation, production of energy crops and aircraft biofuels. He currently serves on the board of the Brazilian Corn Ethanol Union (UNEM), which he co-founded, and on the board of Sindalcool – MT, an association of the ethanol industry in Mato Grosso. Rafael has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from FAAP.

José Alexandre Borges (Non-Executive Director). Alex Borges has more than 24 years of experience in general management, finance, banking and private equity positions in Latin America in companies such as Exxon Mobil, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Tarpon Investimentos, Cremer and BRF. At BRF, Alex has leaded Latin American operations as regional director-president and served as global financial officer, leading the creation of OneFoods, the largest Muslim halal company, as well as the acquisition of Banvit, Turkey’s leading poultry company. At FS, as Executive Vice President of Finance and Commercial, since the beginning of 2019, Alex manages the commercial and financial areas. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and an MBA from Columbia Business School in New York, USA.

Daniel Lopes (Non-Executive Director). Daniel Lopes is Vice President of Sustainability and New Businesses. He is also responsible for the public services business, which includes biomass acquisition and power energy generation and commercialization. Daniel also holds the position of chairman of the Sustainability Committee. Before joining FS, he worked for three years in companies with private equity portfolios, such as Omega Energia (Tarpon), as financial and investment officer, and Magnesita (GP). Daniel also worked for ten years at Votorantim Cimentos, holding the position of general manager of business development, besides having worked in the three groups of the company (in São Paulo, Toronto and Madrid). He holds a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from UFRGS and an MBA from INSEAD, achieved in 2011.

Matthew Horsch (Executive Director). As FS’s operations director, Matt Horsch is responsible for managing the company’s day-to-day operations. His expertise and leadership has been focused on manufacturing operations, new developments and future project development, ensuring that all systems, resources and staff are aligned to achieve the company’s goals. He has over 12 years of experience at ICM, where he worked as a project manager in development, design and construction of greenfield and brownfield ethanol plants, adding almost 400 million gallons online, including several projects in the U.S. along with international projects in Argentina and Brazil.

Everson Medeiros (Executive Director). Everson Medeiros is the industrial director, being responsible for the production and operation of ethanol and dry distillery grains (DDG), which also includes the activities of maintenance, quality, improvements, environment, health and safety.
In addition, Everson is responsible for the deployment of capital and large projects. Before joining FS, he built his 23-year executive career at the large U.S. multinational organization The Dow Chemical Company, holding the following positions: director of operations, leader of large chemical plants, local environmental, health and safety leader, local and plant leader, Six Sigma Black Belt certified professional and supply chain planner, in addition to several operational functions with experience and worldwide exposure. He had opportunities to lead business in the following sectors: Agribusiness, Automotive, Chemistry, Basic Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Mining and Environment, Health and Safety. Everson holds an MBA in Administration from USP (University of São Paulo), a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from UFPR (Universidade Federal do Paraná) and Black Belt certification from PWC (in Zurich, Switzerland).

Alysson Mafra (Executive Director). Alysson Mafra holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from PUC and an MBA in Controllership from FGV/University of Ohio. He built up a financial career at GE for over 11 years, mainly in the energy business in Brazil, Argentina and the USA. He also worked as Finance Director at OHL, a Spanish public service concession organization for highway and sanitation companies, and was Finance Director for private equity companies before joining FS. Currently, he is responsible for treasury, accounting, tax planning and investor relations.

Fabricio Vieira (Non-Executive Director). Fabricio Vieira is the commercial director of FS. He is responsible for the departments of corn acquisition and animal nutrition, which include strategy setting, business process structuring and team management. He has extensive experience in developing new business for new agribusiness projects and has established a solid relationship with farmers throughout Brazil. Before joining FS, Fabricio worked for many years in the area and held strategic positions in large companies such as Bunge and Louis Dreyfus Commodities.
Before joining FS, he worked at BTG Pactual Commodities as origination director for the Brazilian Central West. Fabricio holds a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from Unoesc in 2000 and is currently studying for an MBA at PUC-RS.

Paulo Trucco (Non-Executive Director). Paulo is commercial director and has almost 20 years of experience in agribusiness, being currently responsible for the strategy and sales of ethanol and energy of the company. Before joining FS, he was commercial manager of sugar and ethanol at Bioagência and international commercial coordinator of commodities at CJ Foods. He also worked at Copersucar. His several years of expertise in the commercial area has enabled him to create alternative and specialized solutions for the companies in which he has worked. Paulo holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from PUC-GO and a master’s degree in Business from FIA – SP. He also holds an MBA from USP and specialization in Management from FGV.

Marcelo Fernandez (Board member). Marcelo began his career in 1989 as a systems analyst at Cremer S.A., developing business systems. In 2001, he moved to IT management, acquiring experience in logistics and commercial areas. In 2012, as operations director, he overtook the operations of Cremer S.A., integrating the following areas: industrial, logistics, supplies, engineering, quality, product development, export sales and IT. In 2020, he joined FS as an IT director and subsequently held the position of supply chain and IT director, to work in the areas of logistics, sales, operations, IT and purchasing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a graduate degree in Systems Development Technologies, a master’s degree in Business Administration from the Universidade Regional de Blumenau, and a PhD in Business Administration from the Universidade Nacional de Misiones, Argentina.

Janaína Andrade (Board member). Janaína Andrade is FS HR manager and in charge of organizational culture, people development, employee assistance and payroll. Before joining the company, she worked for a year and a half at Spread Tecnologia, a Brazilian technology company. Janaína also worked as HR manager for seven years at Danone, being in charge of people development, organizational development, talent prospection, payroll and benefits. She also has expertise in the dairy and water business unit. Before working at Danone, Janaína served at Procter & Gamble Partner as a business partner (in the position of coordinator) for five years. She has a degree in Languages from PUC-SP, an MBA from Business School São Paulo and a Coaching certification from ICI – Integrated Coaching Institute. She is currently studying Human Rights, Social Responsibility and Global Citizenship at PUC-RS.

Eduardo Mota (Board member). Eduardo Mota has been the institutional relations director since FS began operations. It is responsible for all the company’s institutional interactions with the public sector, which include the regulatory agenda at the municipal, state and federal levels. He also represents the company within the associations UNEM and SINDALCOOL. He has been living in Mato Grosso for almost ten years and, before joining FS, he served as assistant secretary of Industry and Commerce at the State Secretariat of Economic Development. Eduardo holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Universidade Católica de Pernambuco and an extension course in Business Administration from Insper in São Paulo.
